It's working to achieve a deeper connection with the one, but that is a work in progress. It's a choice to reject anything but the original.
Isn't "there is no God but God." One of the biggest truths of judeo Christian religions? Why would I worship myself? That is limited and small compared to the ultimate.
Although when I think about it, I am not really a gnostic. I don't think the demiurge is evil.
