also, forgot to mention, projected samples like ancient ones in many of these suffer from other problems as well and the distances in their cases should be trusted even less, pic related neatly explains the issue of projection bias, whose TL; DR is that ancients typically appear closer to the center of the plot than they really are when they are projected
unfortunately many even recent studies didn't get the memo and are still projecting ancients on modern west Eurasian variation rather than including them in the PCA, it may have been sensible 10 years ago when ancient samples could be counted on your hands, not today
