Anyway, talking about Quake here, not Deus Ex.
I caved in and checked the wiki.
>If the Fiend's leap attack happens to land on the TOP of the player or a monster, its damage would be multiplied by many times, causing hundreds of damage, often gibbing the player with 250 health and 200 armor or killing a shambler with a single hit.
So, that's why. Nothing to do with speed, but, wow, that's just as fucked up. And see? It can kill you even if you have the most amount of health and armor possible.
Not just kill you, by the way, GIB you. That happens when the damage dealt to something is greater than it's HP, so, that means the fiend, with a single attack on EASY mode, is doing more than enough damage to kill you at full health and armor. God knows how much damage exactly.
The Fiend is just the most dangerous enemy in the game, hands down. Actually, I would call it the only threat in a run. All the other enemies, they can be a little nuisance, or actually benefit you in some instances like Shamblers or Ogres, but never really manage to kill you unless you get in a really bad situation that you shouldn't have gotten in anyhow.
But Fiends, they single-handedly make the game a pain to go through with how fucked up they are. That's just remarkable.
And a fun fact about Fiends, they don't have eyes, because apparently the world of Quake is so "dark, wet and scary" that most of the creatures there don't have eyes.
Also, the Shambler is wearing a coat. Yeah.
I guess that's about it. Oh, one last thing.
Try joining any random server, in any random multiplayer game, with the name "Shub-Niggurath". You get banned pretty much every single time, and it's never not funny. It's literally just the final boss form Quake, and retards think it's somehow racist. I guess that says something.
