The first pattern everyone would have seen if they looked through the tube (would make you very sick but some people did) would be a pattern of 56 plasma filaments. You see the 56 pattern all over churches, mosques and so on.
Over many many many years (perhaps hundreds according to some), it eventually whittles down to a pattern of 4, being the swastika.
The German swastika is missing something though, you should see 4 dots within this pattern.
Anyway, the people seeing this pattern in the sky would know that the cataclysm is finally over and a new golden age has begun.

Who knows what it really means, but the big dipper theory makes sense.You are correct, it was in the sky. In fact the korean one gives you a big hint to its origin.
