I did it in the early 2000s when stuff was simpler but there wasn't much internet resources.
Now there is internet resources for nearly everything.
More recently I was doing some stuff with Silicone devices technology (avoid at all costs if you can) and they said I would have to come to the US and attend some conferences and symposiums. I just said nah Ill figure it out myself and I did.
