Huh, well the components have become considerably more power efficient over the years so requirements for things have tended downwards.
The problem is hardware like the gpu have gone hard in the opposite direction and you don't really notice until it's under load so it's definitely worth making sure the psu is up to the task at least. Running them at 100% is not a great idea after all.
