A lot of the modern Western demolition of meaning comes from the widespread acceptance of the fiction of Materialism or Physicalism - the idea that the world is fundamentally material, and that the end of the brain is the end of consciousness.
This idea removes meaning in several ways. In Materialism, you are nothing but a random, chaotic, soup of particles, including your brain. There is no chance at an infinite being in this view because you are the material brain. There is no meaning in this view; the best you can do is make it up as you go.
Materialism is a fiction however. No one has been able to explain the consciousness in which you hypothesize about material entities. In fact, there is not a single scientist who can explain even 1 conscious experience (like the taste of salt) in terms of materialism:

There is a worldview that explains conscious, the world and the brain. It is called Idealism, and consciousness is the fundamental aspect of reality in this view.
You are a dream in the Mind of God, and when your body dies, your consciousness will continue since in Idealism consciousness is all there is - it is not the product of anything. Instead of ending, your consciousness will expand into the universal mind of God.
