In the new movie Paul admits after the reverend mother ceremony that his mother was trained to transmute poison. This was explained in the novel but never expressed in the dialogue. Is this simply something that movies have to do? After this he tries to deny the prophecy.
You could say that he is refusing the heroes call to action which is one part of the Joseph Campbell monomyth...
But we may have done without this scene and used some more of the dialogue from the novel instead...
