>>18869271Jesus gets 2 conflicting birth stories.
In one of them, King Herod is mentioned. Years after Jesus's birth, the wise men come and tell Herod about Jesus. So Herod kills all the babies in Bethlehem, so they are forced to flee to Egypt. In this account, Mary and Joseph are residents of Bethlehem, and only move to Nazareth later because King Herod's son is ruling Bethlehem.
But in the other account, King Herod is never mentioned. In fact 33 days after the birth they visit the Temple of Jerusalem (where Herod should have been ruling) and get a hero's reception. Then they move straight to Nazareth, where their house was. They only went to Bethlehem in the first place to take part in the Census of Cyrenus.
A major problem here is that it's known historically the Census of Cyrenus took place a full 10 years after the death of Herod. In fact the death of Herod is WHY they initiated the Census, since the region flew into chaos after his death, and so the Romans were annexing it and assessing it for taxes.
But even without that detail, the stories still conflict in major ways. It literally says in Luke that they went straight from the Temple back to Nazareth. There is no room in this account for a flight to Egypt.
