>>9427130>But if it's just some bargain bin seasonal Isekai show that doesn't even tryyeah those exist, but that isn't so much of a fault of "they don't respect the audiences intelligence" as it is that they failed to "put our own flavor/spin on it". In visual art (paintings etc) there are "elements and principles" of art that they use in effective ways to make their own art piece.
Well common tropes are the same way, you use those elements and principles of the genre, but in a unique way that it feels both new, different, but at the same time familiar.
But when you fail to really bring a new flavor or spin to it, or excel at anything in particular, then yes it becomes absolutely mediocre and can't be excused with "well, that's just how the genre is"
Case in point is the anime that I made this webm from.
It was so obviously derivative from Konosuba, in so many ways, which, okay is bad, but they could have used all those borrowed ideas and built something that they can excel at. There was also a heavy splash of "MC is OP and makes all obstacles trivial" kinda like One Punch Man and Slime. But they just didn't have anything that "Popped".
In the end it simply felt like a low-grade Konosuba. And those shows do happen. But not because they insulted the audience's intelligence, but because they didn't have any primary strength or spin or flavor or hook or whatever to "sell" the show.
I mean, sometimes it is as simple as Upotte!!. (please tell me you've heard/seen this show before)
