It’s the fucking Queen.
Of all the people that could be here, it’s her? Nikki’s mind begins to race, as with every step the monarch takes toward her, the world seems to shrink around Nikki. It was as if she was being crushed under the overwhelming presence of the last woman she wanted to see right now.
And then…
And then The Queen ignores her and speaks directly to Elyssa. Nikki breathes a sigh of relief. But any reprieve is a short lived one, as The Queen soon addresses her. Cold. Condescending. Coco was right, this woman’s disdain is palpable.
Nikki opts not to reply to the barb about being able to read time, and silently side-eyes Elyssa as she explains the night’s series of events. It quickly becomes clear that The Queen’s presence here is no stroke of bad luck. By her own admission, Elyssa brought Nikki’s presence to The Queen’s attention.
But how? Try as she might, Nikki just couldn’t figure out when Elyssa could have… wait a minute. She did take quite a long time to unlock the door to the Royal Archives. She must have done something then. There was no other opportunity. Damn it.
Amid the overwhelming disruption to Nikki’s plans, the presence of a woman with dark red hair standing by The Queen’s side almost goes unnoticed, until Nikki spots her, staring intently. Very intently. Nikki is no stranger to that look, she’s seen it on the faces of many of the men and women to share her bed. This could be useful.
She makes eye contact and smiles. Yes, encourage her a little, then appeal to her for sympathy when the moment is right. After all, she came with The Queen. What was it she called her, Valari? Maybe this Valari is some sort of adviser, someone whose opinion The Queen might value.
>Hey, hey something is weird with that woman. I swear it feels like she’s looking at me!Nikki ignores Coco’s voice, replying to her now in front of all these people would be a bad look.
