There's however one big caveat. If it turns out that you're still having problems even after trying really hard to break free from these poor mental habits then it may be the case that you will need to go through some program like the 12 steps for addiction, because it suggests that you're using this as a form of self-medication and simply fixing your thought life will not be enough because you need to work on the underlying and deeply ingrained beliefs about yourself and the world that are creating this addiction cycle.
