If you get the sneak attack you double your chances to crit and you likely do a lot of damage. It's a strong strategy. It takes balls though. You need to be aggressive and overwhelm the victim. If you think about it, it's just practical.
The reason a white man might not think to use the sucker punch, is some antiquated idea of the golden rule and the rule of law. To strike a man is against the law and even if struck they would seek to de-escalate or escape the situation. If you see all men as good people, you wont be ready for a sucker punch. If on the other hand, you start from an assumption that all men are enemies and you can follow the good advice to never relax.
