when you had 7 kids, only the eldest could receive the inheritence and the rest either went to the church. Even the noble did this and these women often came with their own thing, since entering a convent meant giving wealth. So they came with butlers, cooks, furniture everything you could think of to live and eat well.
Barely anything to do with church. Most women were simply sent there to stop their whore ways either. The true unfortunate girls that did endure shit in convents was the orphans who the women gave way in a rolling door and the nuns raised and abused as slaves.
This is where the most abuse came, nuns with powers would often assault these girls.
