My family situation is similar. my older sister has what was in the early 90's diagnosed as severe autism. she can eat on her own and things like that, but is completely non verbal and has motor function problems. My mother has buried herself deep in these fantasies that convince her that there isn't something deeply horrific about the situation.
I was like the kid in this video for much of my childhood. I was told that she is happy and it's our job to care for her and that everything has its purpose to god and so on. But unlike my parents i was never fully blinded to how awful the living hell of this person's existence is. It's awful. It's the worst fate imaginable. This is why I will never not support abortion. these people can't live any kind of life. it's disturbing that we let this happen when we have the ability to prevent so much suffering.
