Religion was inevitable. We have created religion or more so observed it in other animals. *echm*
A case study on birds, birds were able to go to bird feeders where if they hit a button they got some seeds. The button randomly dispensed seeds. After a while birds that got seeds and tried again and didn't get seeds tried to retrace their steps and repeat what they did the first time to get seeds. They started doing little dances or coming at the feeder a different way to see if they got seeds. If it worked, they repeated it. Even if it didn't work they tried again doing a little dance or some shit till it did. What does this demonstrate? Well, what are all religious rituals? Doing random dances and stupid, symbolic step-by-steps to get a thing. It is shown in birds, mice, any animal with reasoning as it only stands to fucking reason if a good thing happens and you were involved in some way, you do the same thing to make good thing happen.
TL:DR Religion is inevitable, as it's built into fucking animal psychology.
