It's the prerequisite for breaking the family apart as well, since your parents are no longer meaningful role models.
Of course, you need to see these people to get widespread imitation, so the radio wasn't that big of an issue. Famously, the Kennedy/Nixon debate shows that people consume radio starkly different than TV.
