The key is eliminating automobile "ownership" entirely. I threw away about 40% of the total mass of everything I own over the past two days, I'm going to fit everything onto a collapsible deer cart that I can push by hand or pull with a bike.
I love downsizing, scrutinizing my possessions and selecting the one most versatile and reliable tool I have used for years and discarding it's redundant competitors. It's more fun than managing your inventory in an RPG.
