What Dawkins preached during his life (and continues to do) isn't much different from spinoza, just with a Christian evangelical view of what "scripture" actually says. In spinoza's time the rabbis were mostly obsessed with their own worldly authority and power. Christianity now is mostly obsessed with it's own authority over it's congregations. If you walk intoost churches today and try and teach even basic hermeneutics you'll be kicked out. I know of one "church" in my town that is basically a synagogue of satan at this point.
