My original point though, was that as a population moves away from a state of living day-to-day, week-to-week working and surviving, they start to pursue curiosity and science. The Greeks did it, then the Romans too. Later on the Spanish and the Brits. Heck, before that the middle east did it (a lot of our math comes from there).
