>>13009754Well, Omsk doesn't have the best kind of reputation around here. Its not a very beautiful city and it doesn't have much history, so I have no idea why would anyone want to see it. It has some things, worth seeing, I guess, but shouldn't be your number one destination. The entire trans-Siberian line isn't exactly full of beautiful cities since most of it lies in Siberia and its a deserted place. Nevertheless, cities like Irkutsk, Vladivostok and Novosibirsk should be worth seeing. Also you really have to check out some natural wonders such as Baikal, Ural, Altai. Those are the things people go to Russia for. Nizhniy Novgorod is also a must see and Kazan next to it if you have a chance to get that far. Ekaterinburg is quite popular too, but I have never been there.
And about the authorities - they really don't care. We are not the USSR any longer after all. They let in pretty much everyone regardless of their political views.
