by giving up your peoples arms you're essentially dooming your people to enslavement for an unknown period of time.
im not too good at explaining these things but the point is centralized power is dangerous and history says that most Governments end up serving amoral ethicless undemocratic power so without a counterbalancing force (armed populace) they will always trend towards greater tyranny and oppression and will never let anyone free from their control.
