I don't think you're a coward, if anything I think it's pretty good and honest of you to talk about this because it'll help you get past it. We all have our moments when we realise how little time we actually have, mortality creeps up on EVERYONE and anyone that says otherwise is a liar.
It will fade and there's not much anyone can really say to make it go away, it's you doing things. Spending time with your family and enjoying the time that you have that overrides the thoughts you're currently having about it.
