But if we are honest, that's when the rot started to set in. The 90s culture started being a lot more nihilistic and hedonistic than the 80s. The 00s just made it official, once hiphop started being promoted as mainstream music, it was clear the direction in which things were headed.
The West lost the plot in the 90s, after communism collapsed. There was a general atmosphere of exuberance and triumph: we won, we're the shit, nobody can challenge us. This is the backdrop on which Osama hit and hit hard. 9/11 forced the West to meet its new archenemy, after falling for the illusion that it had become an unchallenged power.
Then it all went down from there.
