>>16501818They'll also use this guy's suicide due to mental illness to fight over politics some more, yada yada, who cares.
But at least one cool thing came out of it, as I was reading articles on it. There were hot dog vendors rolling their stands down to where the guy was burning himself just as soon as they heard the news. I respect that. You can't miss out on a good opportunity to sell your hot dogs, no matter the context. And the context fits pretty well here, actually.
Also,
WHAT THE FUCK. HOW DID I MISS THIS GUY WHILE GOING THROUGH THE LIST SO MANY TIMES.
>Protesting the screening of Fanaa
>Joshi, came to Jamnagar on June 11 and watched half the film the same day. During the interval, he went to the toilet, poured petrol on himself and set himself afire.Holy shit. He burnt himself alive over the screening over some random shitty Indian movie.
They didn't really give a shit about the movie itself, but apparently it was because of some comment that the main actor made.
He wasn't even saying anything remotely bad. The government built a dam, and a bunch of villagers were displaced because of it. He just suggested that those villagers should be rehabilitated. Then the government got all pissy over it and demanded an apology from the guy. When he refused, because he didn't even say anything to apologize for, the people of the city started protesting the film and just going absolutely ape, destroying a lot of stuff.
How does this even happen? These Indians were so absolutely devoted to the government, that they go and start tearing things up because some actor refused to apologize for suggesting they should help out the villagers that they fucked over. Aren't people miserable over there in India? Why are they such fanatics over the government?
I know better than to try to understand why Indians do the things they do, so, whatever. But holy shit. Imagine burning yourself alive because of this.
