still they were nowhere near as rich as the western european elites, when judeochristians came along, they made jews a priviledged protected class, later all christian kings, including charlemagne, gave jews exclusive rights over the finances, and in the middle ages under these christian laws they got crazy rich and powerful, then in the industrial revolution the gap widened, and after ww2 they were all powerful
