Hitler banned pagan religious celebrations as well as marginal Christian cults (like the Jehovah's Witnesses), and certainly "leaned" on the mainstream churches, but he was above all else a realist about power. The only real religion he wanted for Germany was National Socialism, which was a cultural and spiritual movement as much as it was political. This is how societies were traditionally maintained, a fusion of political, religio-spiritual, and cultural elements. This is what, I believe, the NSDAP was attempting to do in Germany. Any pagan aspects to the state sanctioned ceremonies (the SS are the most obvious example) were first and foremost designed to foster this new society and reinforce the National Socialist agenda. This is why non-governmental, private pagan groups were banned, as were Freemasons, Occult Templars, et cetera..
