He was the first to establish a proper understanding of the Scientific Method, just as it is used today (long before Popper and a much better method btw), naturalism, the laid down the foundation for Renaissance, the basis for the laws of optics, and even said the Speed of Light is very big (as in incomprehensible for a man), but not infinite, because only God is Infinite.
Some 400 years later, Ole Roemer measured the speed of light by timing eclipses of Jupiter's moons only because he found inconsistencies in the measurements made by his fellow scientists (they used mirrors at long distances to prove that light is "instant"), and also knew that Albert's writings and insights contradicted everything that was said at the time - that was the main thing that pushed him to find the right answer.
