I understand that the idea is absolutely not new.
I think it used to be huge in England 100 years ago, I think, maybe even now - I don't know.
Could that be an answer?
It would have to be exclusive, approval-based where current members can veto new applicants to keep it a tight-knit, high trust, relaxing community.
If something like this already exists in the US, why is it not well-known?
