no, there's no point in my opinion either. but i do like getting fucked up once a week so in that case it helps that i can drink half a liter of rakia with some nice appetizers.
well thankfully beer and wine go well with just about any kind of main course or junk food so you're fine. there are some rules such as white wine is better for fish and red is better for meat but those aren't hard and fast. it's when pairing liquors with food that stuff gets more specific.
