But there's also the humans have no imagination route. So if you process patterns well, you can extrapolate a plausible future scenario.
Historically, because of captialism, dystopian futures sell well. Woops poisoned the whole system, now we live in dystopia because no one has imaginations.
However, from dystopia, Utopian ideas might sell better than they did when shit was good. So, since you can easily see how dystopian fiction of the 20th century led to where we are, you should be able to imagine how utopian fiction will get the species out of this.
Even if your ideas aren't picked up they could inspire someone who's ideas are, etc. Therefor, pretty much the only way to fix things is to imagine a better future and write about it in a compelling way.
