However I do remember reading in the news a while back that the SAS were having trouble getting new recruits because their standards were so high that only like 10% of our armed forces even qualified for trial and a tiny % of people managed to pass the tests.
Frankly I can't imagine the UK being #1 just because of simple maths.

Larger countries have a much bigger sample size to field top soldiers from. Though I suppose we probably do have better training regimes than other countries because we're not retarded.
