>>11288660>plate>chainmail>gambesonGood basic introduction, but I love when you look at later Medieval and Early Renaissance armors how it has a plate floating on top of another plate, with multiple layers of chainmail over critical body parts like the neck. Knights were nearly invincible until Swiss Pikemen really started to figure out their methods, and of course Guns helped tremendously. But Cavalry didn't fully disappear until WW1!
