I say rightfully, because ultimately only one of these "gods" can be "highest", so to treat any other "god" as highest is to simply operate on a false premise. This faith spread through the middle east and later branched into the abrhamic faiths. Hence why Jesus was visited by three "Magi"(Zoroastrian word for priest) from the "east"(Iran). Demons and Angels can be though of as thought forms or archetypes of the unconscious mind, or perhaps a even as aliens or extra/inter-dimensional beings. I'm not exactly sure what they are myself, but they are just as real as matter in the sense that they can be perceived just as we can perceive light, sound, and touch.
So, again these beings are what older, "pagan" / polytheistic religions would have considered Gods. Morally righteous "gods" = "angels". Morally indifferent "gods" = "demons". Religions all have far more in common than brainlets can comprehend, or jews would lead you to believe.
