I don't have a gym membership but I want to though.
Gyms have more equipment for you use and if you can get a trainer.

I start of with 3 sets of 10 reps and then bumped it to 15 reps.
Today without even noticing I started to 25 reps and I was like WTF.
So now I do 3 sets of 25 reps.
The best advice I've gotten about working out is "it's a marathon not a Sprint" meaning take things slow and don't rush it.
Also, try to make it past two weeks you'll start to noticeing some changes.
