A true pursuer of gnosis embraces all instantiations of these images rather than setting one against another. And it is the scholarly method, to use several world views to interpret one phenomenon in a syntopical manner, you will find this throughout Jungian psychology. It is known as "depth psychology" because it deals with images drawn out from the "depths" of the unconscious through hypnosis or meditation or art or whatever. Terrence McKenna once said that Jungian psychology is the only modern (LIVING) school which considers the influence of entities on human behavior. I view it as both a modernizing of the ancient wisdom traditions, and a western correlate for eastern mysticism, because in his view it was dangerous to adopt a foreign culture and would lead into psychological dangers.
This is a new way of being that does not contradict Christ but allows deeper engagement with all of his richness.
As we were posting earlier I was watching this video, watch from 11 minutes. He speaks about having a psychic contact with Seneca.

[..] This could be quite common to people if you open yourself up to it [...] If great historical figures from the past still exist you could say in hyperspace and are there if you open yourself up to reach us with their guidance and wisdom.Jung had such a figure, he developed a psychic relation to Philemon, the leader of a Church addressed by Paul of Tarsus.
Of course it is dangerous, you could unlock a demon that was sleeping until you poked it, there are devils inside us as well. So I must warn you, if you go within, it is important to objectify the complexes and not identify yourself with it. Madhouses are filled with those that say they're Jesus. That's because his spirit is overwhelming their own identity. Nietzsche had the same problem.
