Cassie Kade sits on a couch in her downtown penthouse, a mug of coffee in one hand and her laptop in front of her. On her screen, the only remaining copy of the security footage taken the moment Persephone set Club Xtacy on fire plays. She furrows her brow as she watches the way the flames were seemingly summoned and manipulated by snaps of Persephone’s fingers. It seemed her power required specific movements such as a snap of the fingers to be used. If she could manage to stop any such motions, maybe…
There’s a slight commotion as three of Cassie’s henchmen emerge from across the room, each carrying large suitcases towards the penthouse’s main exit. “Oi, careful with those,” Lexi exclaims, as she follows the men.
Cassie eyes the suitcases, then her cousin. “I told you to pack light,” she says, taking a sip of her coffee as Lexi stops halfway across the room and groans loudly.
“Oh come on love, it’s Paris. And I’m in with a chance of winning my first title. I need outfit options for press events!” Lexi protests. “And why is our flight so bloody early anyway? What’s the point of a private jet if you can’t make it leave when you want?”
“Early is what I want,” Cassie replies.
Lexi rolls her eyes and stomps away. “You’re a bloody masochist mate.”
Cassie silently rewinds the security footage of Persephone’s attack back to the start. This was not time to be distracted by Lexi’s… wait. Lexi might be a vain, self centred brat, but if there was anyone Cassie had access to who might know something about just who or what Persephone is, it was her.
After all, she was the one who informed Cassie of their family’s true nature, the one who had a pendant that allowed her to communicate with the demon that mothered their bloodline and the one who left men drained of life after late night encounters. Supernatural affairs were right up her alley.
“Lexi! Get back here and look at this video!” Cassie shouts.
