I'm not an atheist myself, but it's clear as day that the religions we've come up with are just our own projections and coping mechanisms.
We anthropomorphise nature and come up with all sorts of human ideas, from spirits that govern phenomena, to a pantheon of gods with very human qualities, to a single "king" of all creation.
