yeah, any particular element's usefulness is basically just dependent on how many enemies are weak to it and each one has at least some enemies to use on. i'd say it goes light > fire = dark > lightning = wind > ice.
notably light is the only one that my class setup doesn't have access to since it has to be an offensive spell to add the damage to your weapons and almost all light spells are support. ice is the only one that's really underrepresented and even then that's mostly because things that are weak to ice are also weak to at least one other element for some reason
