yeah that's certainly part of it but quite honestly i very quickly lost faith in the value of the classes, especially at this level. there isn't opportunity for much talking in the first place and even when i do speak i think i'd have to say something completely off base for the professor to mention the pronunciation
on the bright side japanese is totally phonetic so pronunciation is unambiguous once you get comfortable enough with the patterns
