I'd totally agree with the folks here who're saying that it was pushing some ideas that are problematic, 100%. At the same time, it was fun, and I enjoyed it. I'm a dedicated racist, and sexist, transphobe, etc, but hey, I liked it!
Also, reading is super important. It's hard to find a series that'll keep a kid's attention for that many long ass books. It might sound silly, but reading is definitely a skill, and some folks just aren't given the chance (or lack the ability inherently) to lose themselves and be completely transported to a different world through words. As an adult I can still just get lost and be on another planet. Imagination is something that needs to be cultivated!
