>>710166> Reading that less people drink tea nowadays makes me feel downSee pic related. People still drink tea, young and old, but coffee has really grown a lot, especially as the dominant workplace drink. As I say, I think it reflects the greater influence of America on our culture: American chains like Starbucks, and American office culture, which I guess lots of us see in TV shows and movies, etc.
To be fair, I think this is true across the Western world. Lots of European countries are receiving this American influence, particularly in cities.
>I shrug when imagine England without teaWe still do have tea. And I think it will be a very, very long time before it ever goes away. I think it's just that people in the last couple of decades have seen American-style coffee as "cool" and "modern" and "sophisticated", while tea has been "old" and "lame".
But there definitely are lots of young people today who still drink tea. And they definitely see it as a bastion of Britishness. So I wouldn't be surprised if tea grows in popularity again at some point. I definitely don't think it is ever going to go away.
