I get they were just starting out the project and were strapped to find contestants to be on the show, but Sam and Jet both have expressed the severe autismic ocean of people looking to be on an online reality tv show they had to go through for season 1, as well as choosing people they felt would be the most entertaining. Clearly they weren't taking just anybody they could find to be on the show.
Not to mention Josie was one of the most popular contestants to the audience watching (outside of Letty) and one of the most well received to the crew and Goldstriker in order to stay on the show. Whatever instincts they felt about Josie making a great contestant were clearly spot on.
She even got Sam to choke up at the end and earned his approval. Nothing about Josie remotely seems like someone Sam would endorse, yet here we are.
