Also maintaining a house is easy if you have some frontal lob development and have some common sense with things like hygiene.
Also if you have a rich friend who has a lot of unused land and is willing to basically let you squat there you don't have to pay a dime if you go off grid aside from some solar, batteries, and maybe a turbine.
