>>19227794I've read a lot of Russian literature. Like any sane man Dostoevsky is one of my favourites. I went to Dublin during the summer and heard Stoke mentioned frequently during tours so I thought I would give Dracula a shot.
>>19228132>after reading translator's note i kinda get it. It wasn't just him but general idea of a woman in 19th centuryI honestly like it as a depiction of Victorian views on gender, I can understand why it holds legitimate value in understanding their culture—it's insufferable to read though.
>As for homo stuff i didn't really get that feelingMost of it comes down to subtext, nothing homosexual is overly explicit. Dracula being an outsider, penetration of the bite, his voluptuous red lips and so on. If you read it critically under gay theory a lot of things jump out at you. I have a handful of papers on the subject downloaded from when I read it, I can forward a few names to the thread if you're interested. There's also an argument to be made of Dracula representing Oscar Wilde. Bram was a closeted fag that was probably shagging Wilde—as a straight man I can admit to being jealous.
