>>10617053In Rome it was pretty quick, for outside uncivilised tribes it was a longer process but in the civilized world pretty much 40/50 years after the gospels were written a lot of romans were already Christian, the traditions of the old gods had died nobody believed in that bullshit, they stopped at the times of Furius Cammilus approximately and most emperors had some secret cult of theirs which was vaguely monotheistic, the Romans even tried to pull their own version of christ, Deus Sol Invictus and Mithras, literally Christianity and paganism fused, but it never took off even tho Mithraism was still practiced by some obscure military branches in Italy till the Renaissance. The last pagan Emperors tried to seriously remove Christianity for the first time since hundreds of years and had to do horrible and massive large scale purges and exterminations, especially the ones of Daia, Galerius and Licinius, when Constantine came to power and legalized Christianity almost everybody came out as Christians and was just pretending to be pagan, Rome and other cities are PACKED with catacombs and other underground Christian hangouts, paganism is and always was just atheism in larp, nobody who was slightly civilised had faith in that trash
