You can't tell me that meeting the sanga is equal to meeting the Buddha himself when Theravadins lost both the ability to read Pali and stopped meditating for more than a thousand years. They literally just chanted fragments of a language they couldn't understand for more than a thousand years, which is why Mahayanins called them "shravakas" IE "hearers"
