Japanese hate foreigners, and are a very low tech society, so I have no idea why Westerners are so easily duped by tataemae+omotenashi+vending machines. ffs ATMs close nationwide for days at a time, fax machines and stamps are the norm, hospitals don't have doctors for an entire week in the spring, and old wives mysticism is in most consumer products (SILVER IONS IN EVERYTHING) and on TV... the list goes on. Japan sucks ass and has a yuge inferiority complex over it.
