The whole reason this never worked out were the socialist influences leftover in politicians (ΠΑΣΟΚ) and in the people that voted for them. And when I say socialist, I don’t mean Norway, I mean Brazil and Argentina. Greece actually IS the favela of Europe, on a meta-level.
You may think that your issues with public servants that can’t get fired, or with politicians that brazenly steal your money and laugh you out are uniquely Greek. Indeed, a German would never understand you. But a Brazilian or Argentinian would.
