This is why they put on painful shoes and uncomfortable clothing, or wear makeup and use tanning that damages their skin. Women aren't thinking "I want to hurt myself" or "I want to permanently fuck up my skin.", they are thinking "This is pretty.". Same applies to Black women and fake or straightened hair, I doubt thoughts of racial lineage go through their minds at all during the process.
